AUGMENTED REALITY

COURSE ON PHOTOGRAMMETRY AND AUGMENTED REALITY TECHNIQUES

In 2015 the Italian Mission organized a training course for Ministerio de Cultura technicians and archaeologists on 3D survey techniques and the preparation of augmented reality (AR) products. The course involved a series of theory lessons plus practical exercises in the field; it was attended by 8 operatives from the sites of Chan Chan, Lambayeque and Caral. The course was organized in two parts. The first part dealt with photogrammetry and laser-scanning recording methods and the use of software for the treatment of point clouds. The second part concerned the creation of multimedia and augmented reality applications by means of appropriate software – and ended with the inauguration of a permanent multimedia sector in the Museo de Sitio de Chan Chan equipped with the following installations: a virtual tour of Chan Chan produced using georeferenced panoramic footage, an augmented reality app on Palacio Rivero, a 3D reconstruction of Huaca Arco Iris and a dedicated web browser.
